Flipkart following the trend of hiring coworking spaces

The new concept that has made working more interesting, effective and efficient while giving the
sense of independence is called coworking. The work-model for the new generation involves a
diverse set of people coming together in a place and work on their independent ventures, yet
together. Elimination of unnecessary expenses, low operational costs, flexible & friendly work
environment and abundance of services are attracting more individuals and companies to choose
coworking. New Co-Working offices in Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and other cities are coming up to meet the
demand of various users. All the major cities have coworking companies that could also cater to the
big enterprises and MNCs. Recently, the e-commerce giant, Flipkart, is in discussion with multiple
coworking service providers for about 3,000 desks in Bengaluru.

The service providers that Flipkart is in talks with including the major names in the industry as
WeWork and CoWrks that are stunning Co-Working offices in Bangalore. A workforce of 3000 is a huge number and when the company is on expansion, an option of
coworking seems great. When such massive companies take a modern jump opts for shared
office spaces and go beyond the conventional practices, they lead the fellow companies. This will
reflect that the firms want to provide their employees with a better workplace and a flexible
environment that will support work-life balance. At present, Walmart owned Flipkart functions from
Embassy Tech Village, Bengaluru. Their campus is spread across more than 8.3 lakh sq ft and has a
capacity to accommodate 7,300 employees.
Coworking is an open space where freelancers, startups and enterprises working on their individual
projects collectively (yet differently) work in a shared space. Although Flipkart has a custom-made
8 lakh square feet corporate campus in the city for its 10,000 employees (excluding Myntra and
Jabong), it is still lured by shared workspace for it offers maximum benefits in much lesser cost.
This is why the trend of coworking is escalating with many established companies switching there
due to the advantages it presents. Talking of the services and the magnetizing reasons of a coworking
space, in only a decade there are now 15,000 coworking spaces which were once just 75. Being the IT
hub and Silicon Valley of India, Co-Working offices in Bangalore are also growing in big numbers in the city.
By the reports, Bengaluru has the highest number of coworking spaces in India taking up 32% of the
market share. The concept of coworking is new to India but not to the world. In all the major cities
and most of the countries, there are shared spaces where the users are keen to take up the services.
The trend has hit not just the freelancers and early ventures but also the massive endeavours. As the
awareness is spread to more people about the key benefits of a shared space, a large number of
corporate firms are coming ahead to reap the advantages of a collaborative and flexible place to work
at. The Co-Working offices in Bangalore are now home to major brands and the entry of Flipkart to the industry is the recent witness to it.
Before Flipkart, Apple, Microsoft, Alibaba, Facebook and Amazon have also adopted this style of working.
This shows that sharing workplace is the thing of the future and the biggest of the companies are also a
part of this coworking culture. You get the flexibility to expand and shrink by opting for Co-Working offices in Bangalore or any other city where the coworking spaces are. It is also estimated that in a couple of years, flexible
spaces will sum up for 30-40% from almost 5% of the workspaces occupied by large corporates globally.
Sharing workspace is getting a good acceptance rate in India and big companies now constitute 50% of
the clientele. In the last 3 years, 300% growth has been seen in this industry and the major players are
having aggressive expansion plans.
As per the report by JLL India, May 2018, the year 2020 will witness over 13 million coworkers in the
shared spaces. More than 10 million seats are expected to be demanded by enterprises, about 1.5
million users will be from freelancers and small ventures and the rest of the seats will be taken by the
startups by the year 2020. With leading companies like Zomato, Paytm, Twitter, Microsoft etc preferring
shared spaces, the demand for Co-Working offices in Bangalore and other major cities is increasing than ever.
With the number of startups outpouring in the country, ventures are facing space crunch. The demand
is higher for a year now and the supply with only traditional offices can never be fulfilled. But if the
companies go for shared workspaces where multiple clients share the same amenities at a much lesser
cost, the corporate world will be a better place. The shared office spaces can be rented out on hourly,
daily, monthly or annually basis and this is great news, especially to the new starters.  A coworking space
is a workplace where like-minded people work together, form a community, build connections, share
opportunities and work in a flexible environment and common infrastructure. Financially capable
companies can always afford the traditional offices but even they are shifting to these modern spaces
(who don’t wish for so much in less, after all?). Shared spaces have a solution to everyone’s problems;
from freelancers to MNCs.
Traditional office space versus a coworking space!
A workplace to a common man has always been a formal office (like we see in movies). Any person
would relate a workspace to a usual office in the first place. Later, people started to work from homes
too. Businesses started from within homes (basements or other parts of the home). These were the two
workspaces that everyone knew before coffee shops became another surrogate for a workplace. It was
kind of fashionable sitting in coffee shops with laptops working. We all have seen a table in small cafes
with a person sitting and working hard on their laptops keeping us wondering how cool it is. Then
entered the most disruptive kind of working- COWORKING. Within no time it gathered freelancers and
startups as its clients. It is easy to rent for as long as you wish to. Pick a hot desk for yourself or a cabin
for your team. Now, even huge corporates like Flipkart are showing their keen interest in the work-model,
searching for suitable Co-Working offices in Bangalore.
India being a developing country too has a great scope for coworking sector. Global coworking giant like
WeWork entered the Indian market with Bengaluru and now is spread to 12 centres in three cities. Also,
our home coworking space providing ventures are doing so well they are continuously striving to expand
and get better. The leading service providers in the coworking sector have Co-Working offices in Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad and all the other major cities. WeWork serves Jaguar Land Rover’s
team, Awfis has Google’s team sitting with them and Amazon sits with Smartworks. If this is not the
modernization of working and nothing can be. A place the global leaders arrange their teams for work
with the starting freelancers are this is so good to see!
Coworking- a new way of working, a happiness industry!
You can’t keep building and renting office spaces as your team expands. The best option that would
come to rescue is the coworking space. A plug-and-play is the only alternative that can bring a diverse
set of people together without worrying about the space. When a big brand or MNC wishes to test new
waters, a coworking is always the right choice. If the market seems in their favour, they can always add
more seats and continue working without worrying over buying or leasing a different space altogether.
This is one reason why the market giants are showing show much interest in shared spaces.
For the medium-sized companies, shared spaces are a cost-effective way of investing in a business.
A huge sum of your money doesn’t get locked in the long term agreements for real-estate. To them,
coworking spaces are also a great place for networking and creating an environment where the
coworkers are sharing work opportunities and growing together. Coworking is a new way of working
where people can use the office assets even for an hour of the day. It is no longer required to invest in
an office space of your own when you can get everything under a plan.
As for the new starters, we already have listed about the advantages and the confidence they get.
As per the survey by the Global Coworking Unconference Conference, people told how benefitted
they are by sharing space, building social connections and better network. The data collected was like:
  • 89% coworkers said they are happier
  • 83% coworkers felt less lonely
  • 72% reported that they stay sane
  • 82% agreed on expanded professional networks
  • 80% people turn to their coworkers for help or suggestions

Building or renting an office space is so much to do while a number of seats as per your team size in a
coworking is always a feasible decision. A creative environment with a positive atmosphere and modern
interiors and people from diverse backgrounds is the future of working.

What is hot desking at coworking space?

We all know about a coworking space and how people from diverse backgrounds come together in one place and work. There is an assigned place for everyone who comes with their teams in a shared space but there is also a very flexible service that a coworking provides known as hot desking. It’s an open space where members work as per their time schedule and requirement. It’s known as a hot desk because it’s open to anyone who wishes to use it. If we talk about the options, there are many hot desks in Delhi/NCR.

Hot desking is very flexible. You can switch between table, couches and desks and you feel more relaxed and
productive at work. Let’s understand more about hot desks in Delhi/NCR:
- It’s a workspace sharing system within a shared working space. The coworking offices have desks for those
who wish to work solo and have no fixed work timings. You can be a member and avail hot desking as and
when you need.
- It is offered on a first come basis. This means who comes first can choose the seat they want (except the
dedicated desks for they are fixed). This way you get a chance to enjoy every corner of the table and see which
one is the most comfortable.
- You get to work in peace. Most people don’t interact with others as they work so they don’t get bothered
with what others are doing and carry on uninterrupted. All the hot desks in Delhi/NCR let you work without
any disturbance and have a great internet and coffee service to keep you going!
The basic fixed desk system is ditched by the present host desk practices:
Better engagement: The partitions between the work-desks are made for a reason. This helps people work without distraction by
focusing on their job rather than having a look at what the other person is doing. But everything has another
side. People miss on social interactions and idea sharing. There are no discussions when everybody minds
their own work. On the contrary, hot desking means an open discussion on an open platform. You have people
around you for suggestions, discussions and networking.
Higher efficiency: Hot desks in Delhi/NCR allow you to work how you want. You also get the facility of a virtual office which
means you have an office behind to take calls and parcels while you’re not around. If you got a client meeting,
you have a meeting room in the same place to impress your guest. Not to forget, people exchange a lot of job
opportunities.
Flexibility: The millennial kind of working isn’t fond of strict routines and regular work timings. They yearn for flexibility
at work. The freelancers and new startups generally don’t start at the regular 9 a.m but a little late instead and
wait till the creative kick doesn’t come.

Host desk is the choice of a smart generation. They embrace the highly ambitious, motivated and productive
atmosphere. A vibrant open work-desk always inspires the talent and gives the energy to those who need it!
